Hiking with dogs

We joined our friends at the Arizona State Parks to share our essentials when hiking together in our beautiful state

essentials WHEN hiking with dogs

We know all dogs' hiking levels are different and as dog owners, you know your dog's endurance better than anyone else. Always check with your dog's veterinarian/trainers before going hiking.  Below is the list of Khai's essentials for every hike we take.

  • Water & bowls
  • Pick up baggies
  • Booties or socks
  • Collar & Leash
  • Training / fuel up treats
  • First Aid Kit
  • Cooling blanket or vest

Other tips

  • Keep a few  copies of printed pictures of your dog with your contact information in case they get lost.
  • Update your dog's tags to ensure it has the most updated information.
  • Always check the weather ahead of your hikes.
  • Make sure you have an app like Alltrails to help you stay on the trail and download the information prior to your hike.
  • Be prepared and have a list of emergency animal hospitals nearby.
  • Be vigilant for wild life, specially snakes
  • Watch for signs of heat stroke (hyperthermia)  which include excessive drooling, lethargy or difficulty maintaining balance, heavy panting, bright red gums and tongue.
